What is Entrepreneurship?
I have personally always thought of an entrepreneur as someone who owns and successfully runs their own business. I have always associated entrepreneurship with the words success, hustle, and hard-work. After researching how others define entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship, I realized that there are many different definitions of the word. Common ideas throughout most definitions had to do with trying new things, continually working to achieve something greater, taking advantage of opportunities, and taking one's career into their own hands. Below I have included three quotes that I found that helped me to understand entrepreneurship in different contexts. After researching, to me entrepreneurship means to take risks and develop new opportunities in any sort of business endeavor and to continually strive for success.
"Entrepreneurship is what people do to take their career and dreams into their hands and lead it in the direction of their own choice. It’s about building a life on your own terms."
"Entrepreneurship is at the core of the American dream. It's about blazing new trails, about believing in yourself, your mission and inspiring others to join you in the journey. What sets [entrepreneurs] apart is the will, courage and sometimes recklessness to actually do it." – Derek Hutson, CEO of Dactical
"Entrepreneurship is the ability to recognize the bigger picture, find where there's an opportunity to make someone's life better, design hypotheses around these opportunities, and continually test your assumptions. It's experimentation. – Konrad Billetz, co-founder and co-CEO of Offset Solar
